What Are Breast Implant Profiles?

Anyone interested in breast implants has read about or heard the term “breast implant profiles,” but we’ve found that there is still some confusion about what those actually are. There are many personalizations and choices that need to be made prior to surgery to ensure that your breast augmentation is custom to you and your cosmetic goals.

The breast implants that we use offer three different types of profiles: high, moderate plus, and moderate, as shown in the graph below:

Depending on your body type and your goals, Dr. O’Neill will sit down with you to help you understand the technical details of each type of implant profile, shape, and size. Plastic surgery is a very personal experience so don’t be scared to ask questions and do your research! Learn about the profiles below:

Moderate Profile

Moderate Profiles tend to be wider but less full on top, which are sometimes better for women with a wider chest and more breast tissue. Moderate profiles usually look more natural as they do not have the upper pole fullness that the high profile provides.

Moderate Plus Profile

Breast implants with moderate plus profiles are a step above moderate, slightly fuller than the most natural look. They will be fuller on top and still wide, so women report more cleavage with the profile.

High Profile

The high profile projects more than moderate profiles, so even if they aren’t larger, they can appear larger. High profile implants can be described as have the “Push-Up Bra” effect. Women with very little breast tissue and a small chest wall typically feel more comfortable with the high profile implants since they are not as wide, and won’t feel as bulky for petite women.
