Go With the Flow of the Season

Go With the Flow of the Season

It seems that in the recent weeks, I am getting questions from patients about skin changes in these hot summer months. Much like the change of seasons throughout the year, our skin changes and has to adapt to cold, warm and Charleston hot temperatures! It’s all about a healthy barrier function. What I mean by that is having adequate amounts of water, lipids and proteins! That is what makes up our skin. Have you ever noticed the texture or appearance of your hands and cheeks in the colder months? Do they look dry, red, chapped, and just unhealthy? How about in hot humid temperatures?? Lounging by the pool, spending the day at the beach, how does your skin look and feel?

Heat causes an influx in blood flow, humidity replenishes moisture, helping to nourish the skin and for some, making your skin life, very easy to manage. But for some, the warmer temperatures bring on excess oil, larger than normal pores, which of course leads to acne, and excessive sweating. For acne prone skin, heat can spark bacterial infections and those who suffer with melasma, heat is a big factor in its reoccurrence.

ZO Skin Health

But what can we do when our skin is telling us to do something!?! The very first thing you should be doing is making an zo-skin-health-charleston-sc, ZO skin Healthappointment with your medical aesthetician. Get a facial, clean things out, and discuss exactly what your concerns are so that your provider can help you choose the correct products for this season. The very first product you should be applying to your skin is a cleanser. ZO Skin Health has three beautifully formulated cleansers to fit your skin type. Hydrating, exfoliating, and a gentle cleanser, each of these have a special key ingredient to address your specific concern.  A good cleanser will clean away dirt and debris, oil, makeup, provides hydration, sometimes exfoliation and inflammation reduction.

Your next step is my personal favorite…EXFOLIATION! We need wake and shake up cellular function! ZO Skin Health’s Exfoliating Polish is just what I recommend.  The micronized magnesium crystals help exfoliate dead skin cells to create a clear, smooth and even toned complexion. It also unclogs pores, removes excess oil while replenishing your skin with hydrators! So much so, you can exfoliate three times a week or more!

Toners, Complexion Renewal Pads and Oil Control Pads are also an important part of the regimen for calming, cleaning, correcting, treating, tightening and PH balancing. I mentioned before healthy barrier function, in order to help correct and maintain a healthy barrier, you will absolutely need to incorporate ZO Skin Health Daily Power Defense. This product will strengthen your skin and support a healthier barrier for your skin to look great feel great and function properly.  Skin is hydrated, tolerant and strong. Daily Power Defense by ZO Skin Health will be recommended to everyone! I hope this months’ blog has helped you in answering perhaps some of your questions as to why things may changing in your skin! Keep pushing forward and commit to a beautiful healthy YOU!

Until next month, xoxo Danielle
