HEV…Do You Know What That Is?

If you do not know what HEV light is and what damage it can cause to your skin, then this blog post is for you! HEV Light stands for High-Energy Visible-Light and what it can do is cause unwanted pigmentation on your skin. I know you are thinking, Great! Not only do I have to worry about protecting myself against UVA and UVB light, now I’ve got to worry about HEV light! HEV light is unfortunately all around us at all times, especially in this age of time where laptops, I-Pads, cell phones are a part of our every single day and for some of us all day long and then what do we do at home? Watch T.V. with our families, shop online, Facebook, Instagram and let’s not forget to mention the hours and hours we spend on Pinterest, I know I’m guilty of it!!  Emitted HEV light from devices like these have been linked to the stimulated production of pigment in skin therefore visibly on the skin’s surface.

How do I protect myself from HEV Light? Well, You Can:

  1. Change careers and do something that does not require you to chronic exposure to these devices.
  2. Never pick up a cell phone or watch a T.V. again.
  3. Find a product to help protect your skin and improve the pigment you already have.

I choose C! Oclipse Smart Tone Broad-Spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen By ZO Skin Health. This product is one of the only SPF products out there on the market that helps prevent HEV damage.  There are quite a few benefits when you use this sunscreen like customizable color beads with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection to match any skin tone, HEV protection, DNA repair and protection helps prevent future oxidative stress, anti-redness diffusers, a 12-hour time release antioxidant complex to protect against photodamage, restores hydration with skin conditioners and barrier replenishers so skin stays youthful and healthy.

ZO Skin Health Products That Protect Against HEV Light

There are many products by ZO Skin Health as well as SkinCeuticals that are great to use prior to applying your Smart Tone SPF 50 such as, C-Bright by ZO Skin Health, C E Ferulic and Phloretin CF, by SkinCeuticals.

C-Bright provides a powerful dose of Vitamin C that is stabilized to brighten and texturize your skin. It should be applied to dry clean skin in the AM and can be applied again in the PM, I personally use it after every shower I take. The Vitamin C Ester gets absorbed below the skins surface and helps prevent new melanin pigment. How does this relate to the SPF? Well, if you are using the product C-Bright that inhibits (or slows down) melanin production, you are ahead of the game in protection of the HEV light that stimulates new melanin production.  C E Ferulic by SkinCeuticals is a combination antioxidant treatment containing 15% L-Ascorbic acid which when used topically, increases Vitamin C levels in a meaningful way. The combinations of Vitamins C, E and ferulic acid gives skin 8x more natural sun protection, 11x more effective when you use C E and Sun protection, and 17x more effective when you use the C E after a non-ablative treatment like the 1540 for skin resurfacing!  Phloretin CF by SkinCeuticals, also neutralizes free radicals, improves discoloration and overall tone. This product is a triple antioxidant cocktail! How could you go wrong!!

In closing, it’s important to protect yourself every day inside and outside all day every day. I am here Monday through Friday to help you find what product and skin care regimen is right for you. Our staff is friendly and ready to help you achieve the most beautiful you! See you soon!!
