SURGICAL VAGINAL REJUVENATION
Vaginoplasty or Vaginal Rejuvenation, is a surgical procedure designed to tighten and tone the walls and muscles of the vagina. Women often lose vaginal muscle strength post childbirth, but it can also occur due to extreme weight fluctuations, age, strenuous activity and lifting, or natural genetics. There are various reasons a woman may consider vaginal rejuvenation, and Dr. Patrick O’Neill of O’Neill Plastic Surgery understands that this topic can be a sensitive issue which can often cause feelings of embarrassment. Dr. O’Neill will take the time to listen to all patient concerns and answer any questions they may have regarding this treatment.
Vaginal rejuvenation strictly addresses the vaginal canal and vaginal opening, and it does not affect the external cosmetic appearance of the inner and outer labia. For patients who are interested in addressing the cosmetic appearance of the inner and outer labia, we encourage you to read about the labiaplasty procedure (below), as this might be an option for you.
Labiaplasty, sometimes referred to as labial reduction, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is designed to correct and reduce the size of the labia minora and/or the vulva, which make up the external female genitalia. A labiaplasty is typically performed to achieve more visually attractive genitalia, but it can also provide functional improvements for a variety of issues, including:
- Excessive friction caused from walking, running, and working out
- Enlarged labia minora which can get caught on undergarments and pants
- Previous tearing or stretching of labia minora in childbirth
- Long or hanging labia minora that is visible when standing
- Enlarged labia that causes discomfort during sexual activity
