Is IPL Hair Reduction Right For Me?- Charleston, SC

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. The equipment delivers intense pulses of non-coherent light at wavelengths between 500 and 1200 nanometers. This spectrum of light vaporizes the root and shaft of hair follicles for permanent hair reduction. Our IPL hair reduction equipment is calibrated to your skin tone and hair color. IPL hair reduction by O’Neill Plastic Surgery is a great option for women and men who no longer want to deal with the hassle and pain of shaving, waxing, and plucking.

Is IPL Hair Removal Right for Me?

IPL hair removal is definitely right for you if you are tired of shaving, waxing and plucking hair. It works great on any type of hair and can be used on almost any part of the body. IPL has other benefits as well. This procedure effectively treats fine as well as dark, coarse hair types. It can be used to treat any area of the body, except around the eyes. IPL Hair Removal is safe for all skin types and has no adverse side effects or down time (although some discomfort during treatment is normal).

Before Hair Removal Treatment

To ensure the best results possible, it is advised that you refrain from shaving, waxing, or plucking before your initial treatment session. The equipment will be able to more effectively target follicle shafts and roots when they are fully intact. Upon arrival, one of our trained technicians will discuss your goals and calibrate the equipment for your hair and skin color. We will create a customized treatment program with lengths of time in between session most appropriate for your hair and skin type.

During and After Treatment

While there are no adverse side effects, patients may feel slight discomfort during the treatment but can resume normal activity immediately after treatment. After treatment, you may be advised to limit your sun exposure, especially patients with fair skin tones. To achieve the best possible results, we generally advise six to eight treatment sessions.

What Are My Breast Augmentation Incision Options?- Charleston, SC

There are several different ways your doctor can make a breast augmentation incision. The three options are periareolar, inframammary, and transaxillary breast augmentation incisions. Dr. O’Neill will discuss the pros and cons of each of these three options with you when you come to the office for a consultation. The incision type that you end up with may vary based on the type of implant, amount of enlargement desired, your particular anatomy, and patient-surgeon preference.

The Periareolar Incision

If the areola (area around the nipple) is large enough, the incision can be made within the pigmented areolar tissue. This incision is hidden even with the smallest bikini, so patients who are concerned about scarring have nothing to worry about.

The Inframammary Incision

The inframammary (under the breast) incision is the most common approach in breast surgery. The incision is made in or adjacent to the inframammary crease. Since this incision provides the most direct route for Dr. O’Neill, it typically requires the shortest amount of time in surgery placing the breast implant. In addition, the scar may be hidden under the breast, so scarring with this incision also should not be a concern.

The Transaxillary Incision

When breast implant patients want to avoid having their surgery scar on the breast, they may be able to have their surgical incision in the armpit, called a transaxillary incision. Their scar may sometimes be visible when the patient lifts her arms or when wearing certain pieces of clothing. Nonetheless, the scar left from this type of incision can easily be hidden.

O’Neill Plastic Surgery

There is no one incision option for every patient. Each patient is different and will have a say in what kind of incision they want for their breast augmentation. Here at O’Neill Plastic Surgery, we want you to look and feel your best. If you are considering a breast augmentation feel free to contact Dr. O’Neill’s office today. Eyelid Rejuvenation (Blepharoplasty)

As people, male or female, age, their eyes show evidence of fatigue. Loose hanging skin, bulging pads of fat underneath your eyelids, and lateral brows that hang over your upper eyelids are some of these signs. Eyelid rejuvenation will correct your appearance of droopy eyelids by repositioning the tissue over your cheeks to eliminate tear troughs. Excess fat can also be removed, and then your skin and muscles will be tightened to produce a more vibrant look.

 Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)

Male breast reduction is available for men who have excess skin and fat around the breast area. The shape and size of a man’s breast can produce a feminizing effect but with liposuction, Dr. O’Neill can help you achieve a more masculine chest. This procedure is not only common in older men who are seeking a breast reduction, but males of all ages who are uncomfortable with the size of their breast. This is an excellent option to restore the loss of muscle tone in your chest area.

Male Chin Augmentation

You want your face to be proportional and balanced, so if your lower jaw projection happens to be limited due to lack of growth, you may want to consider having a male chin augmentation procedure in Charleston, SC. Dr. O’Neill can sculpt your jaw through an enhanced projection by repositioning your bone and using liposuction or with an implant will help your face look more masculine.

Can All Problem Areas be Treated in One Liposuction Session?- Charleston, SC

Liposuction is a type of plastic surgery that removes fatty deposits on specific areas of the body. Some patients wonder if all problem areas can be treated in one liposuction session with their plastic surgeon. The answer is: yes! If you have several fatty deposits that are extremely hard to get rid of, Dr. O’Neill can help. He performs this surgery regularly and his liposuction patients get dramatic, body contouring results, that ultimately enhance your self-confidence and body image! Liposuction can also be combined with other procedures for overall body contouring improvement. Typically, people in good health are better candidates for liposuction surgery.

Liposuction

Problem Areas

Liposuction surgery targets localized fatty deposits all over the body, slimming and reshaping body contours, improving body shape and proportion. These techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the back, stomach, waist, hips, buttocks, upper arms, chest, face, calves, and ankles.

The Liposuction Procedure

The tumescent or super-wet liposuction technique requires an infusion of saline solution with adrenaline and possibly anesthetic prior to removal of excess fat. During the outpatient plastic surgery procedure, Dr. O’Neill will make a series of incisions and inserts the fat-targeting cannula into the fatty deposits. Those fatty deposits are then sucked out using vacuum attached to the cannula.

After Surgery

After the procedure is complete, you may experience swelling and bruising. You can expect results from your liposuction surgery in two to four weeks, with final results appearing anywhere between 2 to 6 months. Be careful, though, because if you experience significant weight gain after your surgery, the fatty deposits that were removed could come back.
