Quick & Easy Tattoo Removal

If you are debating the pros and cons of getting your tattoo(s) removed, it is definitely important to know about the PicoSure laser tattoo removal system. The PicoSure laser sends laser light into your skin resulting in a breakup of ink and complete ink clearance in a matter of treatments. This laser technology is new to Charleston, and the O’Neill Plastic Surgery center.

How Does PicoSure Remove Tattoos “Quick & Easy”?

The PicoSure tool sends ultra-short pulses of photomechanical heat energy (lasers) into the skin to shatter tattoo ink. Once the laser breaks apart the ink particles within the skin, the particles can be absorbed naturally in the body, resulting in complete ink clearance in just a few treatments. Each treatment lasts about ten minutes. For an average hand-sized tattoo, Dr. O’Neill estimates full ink clearance and tattoo removal in three to four treatments.

The PicoSure’s photomechanical heat energy is less abrasive and causes less cellular damage on the surrounding cells than some other types of removal procedures. This results in less pain and irritation on healing.

How Does It Compare To Traditional Tattoo Removal Systems?

Compared to traditional “Q-Switched” removal, the PicoSure treatments work more quickly and patients can expect full clearance with fewer treatments.

Also, traditional treatments breakup the cells resulting in more pain, more redness and irritation, and a slower recovery. The PicoSure treatment is a gentler approach, without the extreme heat energy so skin is cleared and healed much quicker than traditional treatments.

What Are Breast Implant Profiles?

Anyone interested in breast implants has read about or heard the term “breast implant profiles,” but we’ve found that there is still some confusion about what those actually are. There are many personalizations and choices that need to be made prior to surgery to ensure that your breast augmentation is custom to you and your cosmetic goals.

The breast implants that we use offer three different types of profiles: high, moderate plus, and moderate, as shown in the graph below:

Depending on your body type and your goals, Dr. O’Neill will sit down with you to help you understand the technical details of each type of implant profile, shape, and size. Plastic surgery is a very personal experience so don’t be scared to ask questions and do your research! Learn about the profiles below:

Moderate Profile

Moderate Profiles tend to be wider but less full on top, which are sometimes better for women with a wider chest and more breast tissue. Moderate profiles usually look more natural as they do not have the upper pole fullness that the high profile provides.

Moderate Plus Profile

Breast implants with moderate plus profiles are a step above moderate, slightly fuller than the most natural look. They will be fuller on top and still wide, so women report more cleavage with the profile.

High Profile

The high profile projects more than moderate profiles, so even if they aren’t larger, they can appear larger. High profile implants can be described as have the “Push-Up Bra” effect. Women with very little breast tissue and a small chest wall typically feel more comfortable with the high profile implants since they are not as wide, and won’t feel as bulky for petite women.

Which Type of Breast Implant Is Right For You (Silicone vs. Saline)?

The two types of breast implants are saline and silicone. This means that your breast implant, or the sac that is surgically placed under your breast tissue, is filled with either saline or silicone gel. Depending on your overall goals for feeling and look — you must decide which implant is right for you.

In your consultation with Dr. O’Neill, he will discuss in detail the difference and how he can meet your body image goals. In the meantime, we’ve put together some quick information to help you make more informed decisions.
