Body Lift

Although a well-toned body can usually be achieved by attention to nutrition and an active lifestyle, exercise alone may not bring about the results desired. The elasticity of skin can be damaged by aging, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and even the sun. If you’re near your ideal weight, have achieved a stable weight, and are in good general health, you may be a good candidate for a body lift procedure.

During a body lift, excess tissue is removed in order to tighten areas where you might have sagging skin. It leaves the area looking more toned and smooths problem areas. Dimpled skin, also known as cellulite, can also be smoothed during the procedure. The result is a firmer, more youthful-looking body contour.

*As with any procedure and/or treatment the results may vary.

How It Works

Your excess, sagging fat and skin are removed to treat conditions caused in part by poor tissue elasticity. In addition, the procedure(s) can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface, commonly known as cellulite.

Incision length and pattern depend on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed, as well as personal preference and surgical judgment.

A complete lower body lift treats the buttocks, abdomen, waist, hips and thighs in one procedure. A circumferential incision around the body removes an apron of excess skin and fat and repositions and tightens tissues.

A combination of liposuction and surgical body lifts may be necessary to achieve an improved contour. Deep support sutures within underlying tissues help to form the newly shaped contours.

The results of a body lift are visible almost immediately. It may take as long as one to two years for the final results to fully develop.

Benefits

Following a significant weight loss, or due to pregnancy or the loss of elasticity over time, you may have sagging, drooping skin that detracts from all the hard work you’ve done to get fit or simply makes it difficult to find clothing that fits. A body lift can address these concerns and improve your profile while boosting confidence. You’ve worked hard for a shapely, contoured body. A body lift can help you reach your goals.

Treatment Areas

A body lift procedure may include these areas:

  • Abdominal area, locally or extending around the sides and into the lower back area
  • Buttocks, that may be low, flat or shaped unevenly
  • Groin that may sag into the inner thigh
  • Thigh, including the inner, outer, or posterior thigh, or circumferentially

Complications

As with any surgery, there is a potential for complications. Dr. O’Neill will discuss your medical history, your specific goals, and any risk factors with you prior to your procedure. By following instructions before and after your procedure, you can reduce the risk of complications.

Downtime

A variety of factors will impact healing time. Since drains are left in place for 2-3 weeks after the procedure, and pain relief medication is prescribed for 2-4 weeks, it’s reasonable to expect that in general, you should expect to take four to six weeks before fully returning to normal activities.

Be sure to follow your postoperative instructions carefully and check with your surgeon before resuming any strenuous activities.

Cost

A body lift procedure will be different for everyone. Please call the office to schedule a consult. *As with any procedure and/or treatment, the results may vary.”
