Facelift Surgery

If you are seeing problematic signs of aging in your face and want to look years younger, a facelift may be right for you! Facelift surgery is available at O’Neill Plastic Surgery in our Charleston, South Carolina plastic surgery center.

About

Facelift surgery, also known as a rhytidectomy, is performed to create a more youthful appearance by fighting signs of aging visible on the face and neck, such as:

  • Facial sagging
  • Creases and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Wrinkles between and around the mouth and nose
  • Displaced or fallen facial fat
  • Muscle tone loss that creates jowls
  • Excess fat and looser skin under the jaw and chin

How It Works

Facelift incisions typically begin at the hairline, right above the temple, and continue along the hairline ending behind the ear. This incision allows for the reduction of sagging skin, removal of fat, and tightening of the underlying muscle tissue.

In some cases, a second incision under the chin may be necessary. Shorter incisions with abbreviated techniques may be used if the patient’s skin tone is good and when fat in the neck or mid-face sagging needs to be corrected. Typically, incision lines will refine and fade for 1 year. Liposuction techniques may also be included to assist with the removal of excess fat.

Benefits

Facelift surgery is designed to correct aging dilemmas, restoring a more rested, youthful appearance with uplifted contours and improved tone in facial skin and underlying muscle.

Complications

Although rare, there is the potential for complications with any surgery. Your doctor will discuss the risks based on your history and specific situation and help you make the right choice going forward.

Downtime

Swelling and bruising after your facelift surgery usually subsides within 2 to 4 weeks. Final results may be apparent in 1-2 months. *As with any procedure and/or treatment, the results may vary.
