Our Laser Treatments for Skin Rejuvenation
Considering laser treatments for skin rejuvenation? Picosure, Smartskin, and IPL may have been names you’ve heard or read about online. When you have a tattoo, scarring, or simply desire to give your face a lift, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots, skin rejuvenation therapies are often the best non-surgical option available. It’s important to understand the differences, in order to choose which one’s right for you.
PicoSure
PicoSure laser treatments are primarily used in tattoo removal. The PicoSure laser has an advantage over traditional tattoo removal systems. It both heats the ink and “explodes” the ink particles, allowing the body to absorb and dispose of them. Traditional laser treatments typically do one or the other, but not both. Since PicoSure attacks the ink in two different ways, it can be a more effective and less painful form of tattoo removal. PicoSure works best on blue, green, and black ink. It has been found to be less effective when treating yellow or red inks. Dr. O’Neill will perform a full evaluation of your tattoo, and discuss your goals for removal, to help determine which treatment is right for you.
SmartSkin+
SmartSkin+ is a CO2 fractional ablative laser resurfacing treatment. It is typically used to treat scarring and discoloration as a result of acne or other skin conditions. It is also used to treat wrinkles, age spots, blotchy skin, laxity of the skin, and stretch marks. The results develop for up to several months after the treatment, because the laser encourages the growth of new collagen under the skin. Discomfort related to the treatment is usually minimal, and treatments can be repeated to improve results.
IPL Photorejuvenation
Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation is commonly used to treat age spots, freckles, and blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands, and other places on the body. It can also be used to lighten or reduce the redness associated with rosacea and broken blood vessels on the face, neck, and chest. The laser emits brief bursts of lightwaves, targeting melatonin and broken blood vessels under the skin. The broken-down pigmentation is then absorbed into the body. The treatment also stimulates the production of new collagen, improving the overall appearance of the skin.
